At this year’s Arctic Entrepreneur event, Thor Arve Øveraasen, CEO of Øveraasen AS, was honored with the prestigious Winter Operations Award 2025. The award recognizes his exceptional leadership and innovative contributions to the winter maintenance industry over the past four decades.
This year’s recipient has demonstrated unwavering determination and resilience throughout his career, tackling challenges that many deemed impossible. Through innovative thinking and a unique ability to understand customer needs and requirements, he has consistently overcome even the most demanding obstacles. His philosophy? The word "impossible" should be removed from the dictionary!
In 2023, Øveraasen celebrated the 100th anniversary of founder Even Øveraasen’s invention of the first snow plow for vehicles. Today, the company is led by the third generation of the Øveraasen family – Thor Arve, who has been a cornerstone of the company’s growth and success.
Thor Arve joined the family business in 1979 at just 25 years old, fresh out of university as a mechanical engineer from Switzerland, following the sudden passing of his father, John Øveraasen. What was initially intended to be a temporary role has turned into more than 40 years of dedication and achievement.
In 1985, Thor Arve became the sole owner of the company and has since transformed Øveraasen into a global leader in winter maintenance solutions for airports, roads, and railways.
